From Club La Costa to CLC World

10

It was in 1984 that a small company established in the UK, called Club La Costa, entered the world of shared ownership holidays… but it was soon to become one of the most influential in its field in Europe.

The story began with a handful of apartments in mainland Spain, to which others were soon added and in the matter of a few years the company was developing a large tract of prime beach-facing land on the popular Costa del Sol as its main Spanish resorts’ site.

As it expanded its resorts’ portfolio to other countries across Europe, the company evolved its product range to reflect the changing tastes and lifestyle patterns of holidaying families. Creating an innovative points holiday system was central to a continuing success and laid the ground for its hugely popular Vacation Club.

Club La Costa members liked the high standard of ‘CLC’ resorts, how they were well cared for, the on site security and the wide range of facilities offered. In time, they created a demand for owning property outright at these locations and the company’s property division: CLC Estates, was born.

In addition to its Spanish portfolio, Club La Costa added resorts in Scotland, Cornwall, Tenerife, Austria, Australia and Turkey. It opened its own travel in the late 1990s to serve members, while 2007 saw the launch of the Club La Costa Yacht Club for stylish holidays afloat.

With a well established presence in Europe, Club La Costa turned its attention to another high demand destination, Florida, USA, in 2010 and following the success of its first resort there became embarked on a second which is currently under construction. At the same time, a third resort is under way in Turkey.

Crossing ‘the pond’ was instrumental in rebranding the company as CLC World Resorts & Hotels to reflect its expanded status. The company continues on the pathway of expansion and offers fractionals as an affordable alternative to its outright property ownership.

From its small beginnings, Club La Costa has become a large, multi-dimensional company that continues to be led by its founder and Chairman, Roy Peires. However, building better holidays and creating memorable holidays serviced to standards that exceed expectations, remain its guiding principles.

How Club La Costa grew  worldwide

Since its beginnings as Club La Costa in 1984, the company which quickly rose to prominence at the forefront of European shared ownership has turned its attention worldwide with 32 resorts in 8 countries – and still expanding.

Over the years, Club La Costa has also developed and grown its product range introducing a holiday points programme to Europe in the 1990s, offering fractional and outright freehold property ownership, and holiday rentals.

In 2013, following a landmark move into the USA with its first resort in Florida – a second is currently under construction – Club La Costa rebranded as CLC World Resorts & Hotels to reflect its growing presence across the global map.

As Club La Costa, the company had grown rapidly on Spanish territory in the early years, with resorts mushrooming at its Costa del Sol site – known today under the collective title of CLC Club La Costa World, but each individual in character while sharing beautifully landscaped settings and offering a wealth of attractive amenities and facilities.

Listening to its members and being responsive to holiday taking trends, the company has shown itself to be dynamic and flexible in creating products that suit the lifestyles of most families. Key to its success was the pioneering points system which became the foundation of its hugely popular Vacation Club.

Within the CLC World fold the company has its own travel and property divisions. A rich mix of holiday experiences is available to its members at CLC resorts, partner resorts and via an international exchange programme. Club La Costa Yacht Club was formed in 2007 to add luxury holidays afloat, and in more recent years the acquisition of canal boats in the UK has opened up a fun alternative for water-borne holiday adventures.

Arranging more than 325,000 family holidays each year, CLC World continues to build better holidays for current and future generations.
